Ika Schwander
Performer
Ika Schwander (1999) is a French-Dutch performer and director. She graduated in 2023 from the performance program at Toneelacademie Maastricht. Ika prefers to work at the intersection of different disciplines. She creates visual performances, films, and performative installations, often starting from the transcendental state of her being. In her work, she explores concepts surrounding trauma, care, ecology, and death.
In the coming years, Ika will focus on creating work where she is always on the floor with others (both actors and non-actors). The goal is to present an encounter where there is always a contrast present. For these projects, she draws from sources that personally affect her and focuses on vulnerable topics such as chronic pain, femicide, sexual abuse, and suicide. In doing so, she always seeks ways to connect the past with the present and to blend fiction with non-fiction.
Ika wants to connect universal feelings in her works. In a world where everything is explained, she aims to encourage a multiplicity of feelings.
