Princess Bangura
Princess Isatu Hassan Bangura (1996) is a multidisciplinary visual artist. She graduated in 2022 from the Theatre Academy Maastricht as a performance artist. She uses the forms and techniques of various art forms and expresses herself through a wide range of media, such as performances, music, and film.
Her performances are rich in imagery and colors, tend towards boundlessness, and can sometimes be perceived as radical. Driven by memories of her past, they are often a blend of her deep West African roots with her knowledge of and experiences in the Western world. Princess enjoys working with fictional characters and figures from the idea of a higher power.
Because of her religious background, Princess' work is strongly influenced by religion and spirituality. Through her love for storytelling, she gladly takes on the role of storyteller on stage. In her performances, it is less about comprehension and more about experience. The experience of the moment and accepting everything as it comes and goes. In this, the audience usually takes on the role of witness. They see fragments of a larger story.
Princess' physical presence on stage has a primal and earthy essence. She is a mix of language, movement, and sound.
