Rosa Vrij
Rosa Vrij (1994) obtained her bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and graduated in 2022 from the Master Theater (Theater Academy Maastricht). Her work is exhibited in both the visual arts and theater sectors.
Rosa describes herself as a systematic explorer of universes. By this, she means that as a performance maker and visual artist, she creates a universe over many years around the same research. Within such a universe, a series of artworks emerges that build on each other: from interactive book presentations to live drawing. Often, she reverses the roles of the audience and the artwork. The audience becomes co-creator in her search for the boundaries between the body and architecture. She is inspired by video games and board games, and the way these media utilize instructions. She also has a fondness for graphic novels, modular furniture, and book design.
Her work is rooted in intersectional feminism. It is empathetic, poetic, personal, non-hierarchical, and gains meaning between the lines. She believes that the focus on economic value, efficiency, and competition has gone too far in our society. Therefore, she believes that art is of utmost necessity in our time to connect people with themselves and with each other. Her work activates the senses of the audience so that they can meet themselves, each other, and the space in the here and now.
