King Sisters

Performancecollectief

King Sisters consists of sisters Joske (1989), Annelie (1992), and Marthe Koning (1996). All three are performing artists with their own discipline and practice. When they stand together on stage, they find each other in a unique musical language that emerged in their youth.

A performance by King Sisters poses the question: how do we relate as individuals to the collective? And can we find each other, time and again? This theme is deeply ingrained in their DNA. They do not romanticize their family bond, but rather allow room for friction. With their singing voices as a starting point, they create artistic, unconventional a-cappella performances in which they continually challenge each other from their own disciplines. Recurring themes in the performances are the role of the female body and voice, the tension between the individual and the collective, and the relationship between performer and audience.

Their ideology is to be a blueprint for living together. Where there is friction, they seek each other out again instead of walking away. Their youth is filled with golden moments and pitch-black lows; it is hard work to be a family business. Time and again, they look at each other. With this, they aim to inspire. They do this by making gentle gestures on stage. Not a political manifesto, but sincere attempts. King Sisters strive for radical transdisciplinarity without hierarchy among the art disciplines.
