Noah Janssen

Noah Janssen (1995), born in Sittard. Belgian father, Dutch mother, grew up in Echt, graduated in 2022 from the Maastricht Theatre Academy as a director. Here he has started to discover where exactly his desires lie within the life he leads and the theatre he creates. These desires are linked to his vision of the future. His work revolves around the notion that, essentially, we are all alone in the world; that we should patiently endure and leave unspoken our sense of existential loneliness and the absence of security or guarantee of a successful life.

The theatre that Noah creates starts from his experience of the overwhelming nothingness in life, how he has learned to ignore that and his unwillingness to do just that. The question that is central to his work, from which he begins and which forms the basis of the characters, is: how exactly to come to terms with the turbulence that arises from this? How do I gain control over the life that lives me? When do I experience the rare sublime redemption, lose myself, and feel as though I am in contact with something that feels greater than myself? – Because, in his opinion, theatre must therefore be about the overwhelming nothingness, he cannot imagine how a manageable, understandable work could emerge from that. That is also not his ambition. He searches for a way to create work that allows the audience to hover above a mirror of his ambivalent experiential world, where feelings are more important than the rational.
